The Passion of Jesus
Christ
" He was in
the world, and though the world was made through him,
the world did not recognize him. He came to that
which was his own, but his own did not receive him"
(John 1:10-11)
Mocked and ridiculed. Spat upon. 'Beaten
with fists--and with whips. His back ripped to
ribbons. His brow bruised and bloody from the
crown of thorns pressed into His flesh. A spear
piercing His side. Nailed to a cross and condemned
to a most brutal and agonizing death.
This was the Passion of Jesus Christ.
The word passion comes from a
Latin word meaning "to submit to suffering."
That's exactly what Jesus did. But why did He
submit to such awful suffering? Why did He allow
Himself to undergo such torture and misery?
In a word, sin. Not His-ours. Jesus
Himself was without sin. He did nothing
wrong-ever! He never had an evil thought. He never
told even a "white" lie. He was perfect, spotless,
sinless. But we are not. The Bible tells us
that every one of us is a sinner. Each of us has
ignored the commandments of our Creator, rejected His
authority over us, disobeyed His law, and failed to live
up to His holy standards. "All have sinned and
fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).
"there is no one righteous, not even one. . . no one who
seeks God" (Romans 3:10-11).
Sin has a hefty price tag: death.
The death of our bodies, but more importantly our
spirits. We were given immortal souls, designed to
live forever. We were meant to experience a deep
and meaningful relationship with the One who created us.
But nothing sinful or imperfect can ever enter the
presence of God. All wickedness is utterly abhorrent to
Hem. So when we choose sin rather than God, we are
choosing eternal separation from Him.
But in His infinite mercy, our Creator
made a way for us to be reconciled to Hem. God
sent His only Son, Jesus, to die in our place-to take
the punishment for us, to pay the penalty for our sin.
Why would He do such a thing?
In a word, love. Love for you.
Love for me. Love for the whole human race.
"For God so loved the
world that he gave his one and only Son, that
whoever believes in him shall not perish but have
eternal life" (John 3:16).
The Bible tells us that the crucifixion
was no surprise to Jesus. He knew what was coming
all along. From the beginning He understood what
He would suffer. And yet He deliberately chose the
path that would lead to the cross. He willingly
laid down His life to save us.
"He was pierced for
our transgressions. he was crushed for our
iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was
upon him, and by his wounds we are healed" (Isaiah
53:5).
The blood of Jesus was shed for us.
That day on the cross, He paid the ultimate price in
order to reconcile God and man-to make peace between the
two. What appeared to be a tragedy born of hate
was in fact love's greatest triumph. And the
crucifixion was not the end of the story. Death
had no legal claim on Jesus-He had done nothing to
deserve to die. So death could not keep Him in the
grave. On the morning of the third day, He rose
again in power and glory. And now He lives
forevermore!
Because He lives, so can we. Jesus
said:
"I am the
resurrection and the live, even though he dies; and
whoever lives and believes in me will never die"
(John 11:25).
Because of the suffering that Jesus
endured, because of His death on the cross, because of
His resurrection the power of sin has been broken.
Death has been conquered. But only those who
believe in Him will receive the hope of heaven, the gift
of eternal life.
Do you believe? Will you receive
this precious gift, bought and paid for by the blood of
Jesus Christ? You might pray something like this:
Dear Jesus, I confess
that I am a sinner in need of a Savior. I know
it was my sin that sent You to the cross. You
took the punishment in my place. Thank You for
sacrificing Your live for mine. Thank You for
saving me from death and giving me eternal life.
Help me to live each day in the knowledge of Your
death and resurrection, forgiven and eager to honor
You. Amen.

La Pasion de Cristo Jesús
"Él que
era la luz ya estaba en el mundo, y el mundo fue creado
por medio de él, pero el mundo no lo reconoció.
Vino a lo que era suyo, pero los suyos no lo recibieron"
(Juan 1:10-11).
Ridiculizado, escupido, golpeado a puñetazos,
azotado. Su espalda desgarrada completatmente.
Su frente ensangrentada y lastimada por la corona de
espinas clavada a su frente. Una lanza traspasó
su costado. Clavado a una cruz y condenado a la muerte más
brutal y agonizante.
Esta fue la Pasión
de Cristo Jesús.
La palabra pasión
viene de la palabra en latin que significa "someterse a
sufrimiento." Eso fue exactamente lo que Jesús
hizo. Pero, ¿por qué
se sometió a tan
horrendo sufrimiento? ¿Por que
se permitio a Sí mismo sufrir
tal tortura y misera?
En una palabra, pecado. No el
suyo-sino el nuestro. Jesús
mismo fue sin pecado.
İÉl
nunca hizo algo malo-jamás!
Él
nunca tuvo un pensamiento pecaminoso.
Él
nunca dijo una mentira "blanca."
Él fue
perfecto, sin manca , sin pecado. Pero nosotros no
lo somos. La Biblia nos dice que todos y cada uno
de nosotros somos pecadores. Cada persona ha
ignorado los mandatos de nuestro Creador, hemos
rechazado Su autoridad sobre nosotros, hemos
desobedicido Su ley, y no hemos podido satisfacer sus
estándares sagrados. "Pues
todos han pecado y están
privados de la gloria de Dios" (Romanos 3:23). "No hay
un solo justo, ni siquiera uno...nadie que busque a Dios"
(Romanos 3:10-11).
El pecado tiene un precio muy caro: las
muerte. la muerte de nuestros cuerpos, pero más
importante aun de nuestros espíritus.
Dios nos dio almas inmortales, hechas para vivir para
siempre. Fuimos creados para experimentar una
profunda y significativa relación
con Él
que nos creó. Pero
nada pecaminoso o imperfecto puede entrar a la presencia
de Dios. Toda maldad es completamente aborrecida
por Él.
Así es que cuando escogemos el
pecado en vez de Dios, estamos escogiendo la
separación eterna de
Él.
Pero en Su inifita misericordia, nuestro
Creador hizo posible que nosotros pudiéramos
ser reconciliados con
Él.
Dios mandó a Su
único Hijo, Jesús,
a morir en nuestro lugar -para tomar nuestro castigo,
para pagar la pena por nuestro pecado.
¿Por qué
haría tal cosa?
En una palabra, amor. Amor para ti.
AMor par mí. Amor para la
humnidad entera.
"Porque tanto amó
Dios al mundo, que dio a su Hijo unigénito,
para que todo el que cree en
él no se pierda,
sino quie tenga vida eterna" (Juan 3:16).
La Biblia nos dice que la cruscifixion no
fue una sorpresa para Jesús.
Él
sabía lo que le esperaba.
Desde el principio Él
comprendió lo que
iba a sufrir. Y aun así
Él
deliberadamente escogió
ese camino que le llevaría a
la cruz. Él
por su propia voluntad entregó
Su vida para salvarnos.
Él
fue traspasado por nuestras rebeliones, y molido por
nuestras iniquidades; sobre
él recayó
el castigo, precio de nuestra paz, y gracia a sus
heridas fuimos sanados" (Isaías
53:5).
La sangre de Jesús
fue derrarmada por nosotros. Ese día
en la cruz, Él
pagó el precio máximo
para poder a reconciliar a Dios con el hombre-para hacer
paz entre ambos. Lo que parecía
ser tragedia ncida de odio fue en realidad el triunfo más
grande del amor. Y la crucifixion no fue el final
de la historia. La muerte no tenía
ningún poder legal sobre Jesús-Él
no había hecho nada para
merecer morir. Entones la muerte no podia
manternerlo en la tumba. La mañana
del tercer día,
Él se
levantó de la tumba
en poder y gloria. Y ahora İEl
vive para siempre!
Porque
Él
vive, nosotros, también
podemos vivir. Jesús
dijo:
Yo soy la
resurreccion y la vida.
Él
que cree en mí vivirá,
aunque muera" (Juan 11:25).
Por los sufrimientos que Jesús
soportó, por Su
muerte en la curz, por Su resurrección,
el poder del pecado se ha roto. La muerete ha sido
conquistada. Pero solamente aquellos que creen en
Él
recibirán la esperanza del
cielo, el regalo de la vida eterna.
¿Crees?
¿Recibirás
el precioso regalo, comprado y pagado con la sangre de
Cristo Jesús?
¿Podrías
orar de la siguiente manera?
"Querido Jesús,
confieso que soy pecador y en necesidad de un
Salvado. Yo sé
que fue mi pecado el que Te mando a la cruz.
Tomaste el castigo en mi lugar. Gracias por
sacrificar Tu vida por la mía.
Gracia por salvarme de la muerte y por darme vida
eterna. Ayúndame a
vivir cada día en el
conocimiento de Tu muerte y resurrección,
perdonado y con todo el deseo de honrarte a Ti. Amén.
